Over 100 Nursing Colleges Without Own Hospitals To be Banned!

As per the rules of National Medical Education Commission (NMEC), more than 100 nursing colleges which do not have their own hospitals will be banned in the new academic year.

According to the NMEC Act 201, colleges providing nursing education should have their own hospital with at least 100 beds. Earlier, the commission had set a two-year deadline for nursing colleges to build their own hospitals. And the two-year term ended this year.

Even two years later, under the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training, nursing colleges have failed to build their own 100-bed hospital. Colleges affiliated with universities have also failed to do so.

According to CTEVT spokesperson Binod Badal, 90 out of 1 nursing 3 nursing colleges affiliated to CTEVT and 20 colleges affiliated to other universities do not have their own hospitals. And the closure of these colleges will put 3,000, SEE students at risk of not enrolling in the CTEVT-year diploma course.

“Even CTEVT does not have its own hospital. It cannot be established within two years. The government should give a way out to advance the teaching of nursing education,” he added.

Acknowledging the problems in the Act, Dilli Luintel, NMEC Spokesperson, said, “Nursing sector has a lot of problems. The Act itself was introduced to address these bad practices. The commission has proposed amendments to address the problems seen in the Act.”
